The love of dogs goes
back as far
as all of us can remember.
None of us could imagine life
without them today!
I (Melissa
White) grew up with dogs
of one form or another all my life.
My
first memories are of animals
(Dogs, cats, horses and anything
else that
moved.) and loved
family members.
I grew up 1st
wanting to be a vet
and then
decided I couldn't deal with hurt
animals all day everyday. Then
I decided to go into Forestry and
Wildlife management to help
preserve and
save as many animals
as possible. I probably would
have followed this path,but
sometimes life has a way of
changing things with out warning.

Instead of
pursuing a career, I got married to
my wonderful husband, Dan and had our
beautiful little girl Ashleigh.
This changed the course of my life
in ways I would never imagine. Instead of a career,
I settled down
to raise my family, enjoying my animals only as pets.
This lasted until
Ashleigh was 4 years old.
Fall of 1999 my daughters black lab jumped
our 8 foot fence and was hit on the road
in front of our house.
This
was Ashleigh's first experience with the death of a loved one. It
took us a long time to grieve and prepare our hearts for a new pet.
When Ashleigh could no longer stand not having a dog, we started searching
for the perfect companion to add to our family.
(Which then consisted of
Myself, Dan, Ashleigh, 1 German Shepherd, 2 Cats, Fish, and 2 horses.)

We decided to
look for a small dog, possibly a beagle, at the local Animal Shelter.
Off we went crying over all the dogs needing a home, and found a beautiful
2 year old female beagle up for adoption. We came back the next day
bright and early in the morning for the lottery that was held to chose her
home as there were so many who wanted her. Some one else took her
home.
We started the
search again and this time found a beautiful 1 year old male beagle, again
a lottery and again he went home with someone else. Ashleigh was
heartbroken. That was it! We were going to find a breeder and
buy her a puppy, even if it cost us a whole lot more. We started
looking at beagles of course, but found that the quality of what we were
finding was awful and the temperaments of the parents not so great.
Then we were at the pet store and found
a flyer for Jack Russell Terriers.

Not having a real clue
what kind of dog they were, we called the breeder and asked her,
"Is a
Jack Russell like Wishbone?" She said yes, answered some more questions
and we drove straight over to look at the puppies. (she only lived about 5
minutes from us) That was when Shasta (White's Shasta Cream) came into
our lives, changing it's course forever. She was only 10 days old and her
eyes weren't even open yet. She was only one of two puppies still
available in the litter and as we preferred the tri color markings, we
chose her as Ashleigh's new best friend. What a perfect choice it was.
Ashleigh and Shasta have been inseparable ever since. Ashleigh calls
Shasta her Sister and they do everything from sleep to explore and hike
together.
This was the beginning
of our what has now turned into a life long enjoyment of our dogs.
We now actively show both our Parson Russell's and our Border Terriers.
If you ever get a
chance, stop by and meet us in person. If you can't make it by, email me
or give us a call. We love to chat with other animal lovers!
